Q: I received a Radiogram over the air which I tried to deliver, but the phone number for the recipient wasn’t working. How do I communicate this non-delivery problem, if the original Radiogram had been submitted through the Portal?
A: You would originate a “service message” piece of traffic, over the air, addressed to the Station of Origin. This is the same procedure as always on NTS; the fact that the original message had been submitted through the Portal makes no difference.
Q: I received and a delivered a message with an HXC handling instruction. I realize this means I need to send a service message about the delivery. If the person in the signature is a ham, should I address my service message to the person in the signature?
A: No. A service message should always be addressed to the Station of Origin, not the person in the signature. (It’ll be up to the Station of Origin to get in touch with the signer, if needed). However, a Reply message, if any, would be addressed directly to the signer, and it might even find its way back by some other route.
Q: I need to originate a “service message” regarding a Radiogram I recently handled. Can I submit this through the Portal?
A: The Portal is primarily intended for the general public to use as a way to send a message to a friend or relative; to keep it simple, its option set is limited. Instead, please originate your service message over the air, using phone, CW, or digital.
